Bihar (बिहार in Devanagri) is a state situated in the eastern part of India. Its capital is Patna. The name Bihar is a corruption of Vihara which means a Buddhist monastery. It is bordered on the north by the Kingdom of Nepal. It is surrounded on its west, south, and east sides by the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal, respectively. Bihar lies in the very fertile Gangetic plains, and is part of the Hindi-speaking heartland of India.

Mahabodhi Temple. Bodhgaya
The Mahabodhi Temple is a famous temple standing tall at 54 mts. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this temple has been renovated over the years. It enshrines a large golden Buddha, and is encompassed by an ancient railing, dating back to 100 BC. See also the famous Bodhi Tree where Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment, and the Vajrasana or throne, where Buddha sat.
